Duterte asks private hospitals to allot more beds for Covid patients

JAKARTA (AA) – Philippina president Rodrigo Duterte appealed to the private hospitals to increase their allotted beds for Covid-19 patients.
“I hope you can set aside more,” Duterte said on the meeting the core members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) at the Malago Clubhouse, Malacanang, on the press release.
Duterte said, as of Sept. 13 the Department of Health (DOH) has 21,500 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.
The details, 1,900 intensive care unit beds; 13,700 isolation beds; and 5,900 ward beds.
Fifty percents of bed for the intensive care unit are occupied, 44 percent for the isolation and 48 percent for the wards.
While about 27 percent of 2,200 ventilators are in use.
As of Monday, the Philippines had 4,699 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total cases to 265,888, the highest in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, the condition of health facilities in each province or city are different.
“I hope you can add [to the number of beds] because still, the numbers of [cases] are increasing,” said Duterte.
